چکیده

Social network analysis has become an extremely popular research area, where the main focus is the understanding of networks’ structure. In this paper, we study the expansibility of large social graphs, a structural property based on the notion of expander graphs (i.e. sparse graphs with strong connectivity properties). It is widely believed that social networks have poor expansion properties, due to their communitybased organization. Moreover, this was experimentally confirmed on small scale networks and it is considered as a global property of social networks (independent of the graph’s size) in many applications. What really happens in large scale social graphs? To address this question, we measure the expansion properties of several large scale social graphs using the measure of subgraph centrality. Our findings show a clear difference on the expansibility between small and large scale social networks, and thus structural differences. Our observations could be utilized in a range of applications which are based on social graphs’ structure.

Fast Robustness Estimation in Large Social Graphs: Communities and Anomaly Detection

Given a large social graph, like a scientific collaboration network, what can we say about its robustness? Can we estimate a robustness index for a graph quickly? If the graph evolves over time, how these properties change? In this work, we are trying to answer the above questions studying the expansion properties of large social graphs. First, we present a measure which characterizes the robus...

Hypergraph expanders from Cayley graphs

We present a simple mechanism, which can be randomised, for constructing sparse 3-uniform hypergraphs with strong expansion properties. These hypergraphs are constructed using Cayley graphs over Z2 and have vertex degree which is polylogarithmic in the number of vertices. Their expansion properties, which are derived from the underlying Cayley graphs, include analogues of vertex and edge expans...

A Dynamic Model for On-Line Social Networks

We present a deterministic model for on-line social networks based on transitivity and local knowledge in social interactions. In the Iterated Local Transitivity (ILT) model, at each time-step and for every existing node x, a new node appears which joins to the closed neighbour set of x. The ILT model provably satisfies a number of both local and global properties that were observed in real-wor...

Large-Scale Expansion of Human Embryonic and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells for Cell Therapy Applications

Successful isolation, derivation and culturing of human pluripotent stem cells, including human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and human induced pluripotent stem (hiPSCs) cells in laboratory scale has opened new horizones for cell therapy applications such as tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. However, most of the cell therapy protocols using these unique cells require large number of ...
